Lucky the Leprechaun to Promote Parade Year-round

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Visit Hot Springs has added a full-time staff member to promote the World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

He is Lucky the Leprechaun and he joined the staff Monday as preparations continue for the First Ever 11th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 17 on world-famous Bridge Street in downtown Hot Springs.

“Lucky is just another great addition to our parade, which keeps getting better year after year,” Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison said of the new mascot. “Lucky will be available all year ‘round for appearances to promote the parade.”

“Lucky does not replace The World’s Biggest Leprechaun, who is a valued member of the parade but who sometimes is not available for promotions except on St. Patrick’s Day,” Arrison said.

Lucky and Biggest will join a growing list of attractions for the 2014 parade. Last week it was announced that the four Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders who scored a major hit in 2013 will return to enliven the 2014 event.

Tom and Mary Daniel will be the King and Queen of the Parade, which covers the 98-foot length of world-famous Bridge Street, the shortest street in the world in everyday use, according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

Entertainer Jim Belushi, star of TV, movies and comedy clubs, will be the celebrity grand marshal, leading the dozens of floats, bands, marchers, Irish Elvis Presley impersonators, Irish wolfhounds, dancing Irish belly dancers and others down Bridge Street.

“It’s hard to believe this will be the 11th year we’ve put together this event, which began as an idea hatched by a group of citizens enjoying adult beverages in a bar at Spencer’s Corner,” said Steve Arrison, CEO of Visit Hot Springs.

Entries are already being accepted for the 11th annual parade. Only 40 entries will be accepted. For information on submitting an entry, call Leysa Lowery at 501-321-2027.
